Safely Delivering Phase 1 Decommissioning
and Facility Disposition at the

West Valley Demonstration Project

The West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP) is an environmental remediation project at the site of a former commercial nuclear fuel reprocessing center located about 40 miles south of Buffalo, New York. CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley, LLC (CHBWV) was selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to conduct Phase I Decommissioning activities at the WVDP under an 8.6-year, $461.4 million contract that began in August 2011.

On April 10, 2020, the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Environmental Management extended CHBWVs cleanup contract by an additional 39 months, to June 2023. The total value of the extension modification is $243 million. The new contract value will be approximately $836 million.

Since taking over control of the site in 2011, the CHBWV Team has been leading cleanup and facility demolition activities and is actively engaged in removing radioactive waste, contaminated equipment, and obsolete structures from the 200-acre site.
